Summers often signify missed opportunity for me. I tend to look back at the season and dwell at the fact that I might have been able to do more. Maybe I could’ve saved that friendship if I checked in more. Maybe I should have learned to lead with my head so my heart wasn’t always broken. Maybe I should have left the house more, taking long and peaceful strides with those that love me. That loved me. As the Summers pass more frequently, I notice a few facets that are unavoidable at this point. The heat continually rises, my emotions become harder to conceal, and tolerance is lower because I simply have less to keep myself preoccupied with. Yet with this Summer, it feels as if it has all come to a head. And what I’ve come to realize is I’m beginning to think more and more about myself the more and more I spend time with myself. It’s an unusual and often times scary sensation. I don’t know who I am when I begin to talk to myself, and my life doesn’t seem to have direction when I break down layer after layer of what I do and why I do it. Yet I continue onward. Maybe because there’s a hope in me that what I do will one day manifest in a living that my loved ones will be proud of. Or maybe it’s because there’s a hope that I’ll be accepted by those I admire so greatly. Hell, maybe it’s because I hope to one day leave an impact on someone the way my idols left an impact on me. Regardless, I continue onward. This program is an amalgamation of all of these thoughts, and alongside my thoughts, music narrates this dialogue. The soundtrack to my crazy Summer. 2019 might mark the beginning of something when I look back at this year in hindsight but it’s really been accented by feelings of loss, grief, and sadness. But I don’t want to sit around and feel bad for myself. So I hope you enjoy this and it gives you something.
